Delete Pages From a PDF

Updated

Short answer: Open Delete pages, type the pages to remove such as 2, 5-7, and download a copy without them; or use Organize PDF to delete by sight.

Blank pages from double-sided scanning, an advert page at the end of a statement, a cover sheet the portal doesn't want: deleting pages is quick when you know their numbers, and only slightly slower when you don't.

Step by step

  1. Step 1: Find the page numbers to remove, using your viewer's page counter rather than numbers printed on the pages.

  2. Step 2: Open Delete pages and drop the PDF.

Open Delete PDF pages(runs on your device)
  3. Step 3: Type the pages to remove, using commas and dashes, for example 2, 5-7, 12.

  4. Step 4: Download the shorter copy. Your original isn't changed.

  5. Step 5: Prefer to see the pages? Open Organize PDF, delete pages from the previews and reorder at the same time.

Why this works, and what to watch for

Delete pages builds a new PDF from the pages you're keeping, copying each one exactly: same text, same images, same quality. Nothing is re-rendered or re-compressed. It runs in your browser, so the document isn't uploaded, and there's no daily limit.

Page numbers trip people up. The numbers printed on a document often start after a cover or contents, so “page 3” in the footer may be the fifth page in the file. Use the counter your viewer shows (5 of 40) when typing pages to delete. If in doubt, Organize PDF shows thumbnails of every page, so you can delete exactly the ones you see.

Blank pages from scanning are rarely perfectly blank; they're often faint grey with bleed-through from the other side. Organize PDF's previews make them easy to spot. Deleting them also cuts the file size noticeably, because each scanned page is a full image.

Deleting a page removes it from the document you download, but think about what else references it. A table of contents still lists the old page numbers, and printed page numbers on the remaining pages won't change. If you need consistent numbering afterwards, add new page numbers with the Page numbers tool.

If you want to keep a few pages and drop most, Split PDF's Extract pages mode is the inverse: type the pages to keep.

Questions, answered

Is my original file changed?

No. You download a new copy without the deleted pages; the original stays as it was.

Can I see the pages before deleting?

Yes. Organize PDF shows a preview of every page, so you can delete by sight and reorder at the same time.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Delete pages runs entirely in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
